The Story

Why and How Mission X came to be...

This is an extract from The Book, by Rox

i, I’m Rox, the chief architect and founder of Mission X.  I’ll keep The Story reasonably short for now as you will have an opportunity to know and understand more about the creation of Mission X in The Book, under development and to be published in early 2025.  Earlier than that, you will have an opportunity to learn more when we connect and start your Mission X journey. During this membership lifecycle, I will advocate for you and the next season of your good life, personally and PROfessionally.

Mission X is designed for everyone—The People. You might find The Story interesting because as I write and share relevant parts of me and my life and the reason for the creation of Mission X, you will find many common and shared experiences with you in your life.  This is why I invite you to join me on this Mission X journey.

Let The Story begin....

In September, 2017, I embarked on a transformative journey—unrecognized that it would be transformative at the time.  As a married woman, an organizational development consultant, living and traveling between my homes in Virginia and Florida, it was on my 56th birthday, that a new season was ignited - a series of events in the Day of the Life of Rox.  I typically plan my goals and aspirations during my birthday month instead of at the beginning of a calendar year.  Looking at my future through a few New Year's resolutions wasn't as effective as focusing on establishing a set of goals to be accomplished before my next birthday.

What I envisioned for my future at the beginning of that month was intensely different by the end of my birthday celebration.  While working on my annual goals the following day, the vision was surprising, and the choice needing to be made was clear.  I wrote The Letter.  The details don’t matter for now.  What matters is the decision I shared in The Letter seemed to have a good, sound spirit grounding it; a decision that I had not been able to make for eight years.  I chose not to consume my time and energy trying to manage the series of events of that day.  Instead, I exercised through a guiding principle I use in my organizational development consulting practice of focusing on understanding and recognizing the impact and influence on all other core areas of my life (positive and negative).  Thus, my goals were focused on building solutions toward my future desired life.

Three and a half months later, I experienced a spiritual awakening, and the vision of the trajectory of the rest of my life was vivid.  I embraced what is now recognized as the Life byDesignâ„  PROgram, a focused and disciplined behavior for intentional living with purpose and a plan.  I paused, studied, reflected, and worked on my purpose: gaining more fulfillment, balance, and growth in my life - one moment at a time.  I found myself on fire with a clear roadmap to bring newness, revival, and restoration into all areas of challenge or opportunity that surfaced.  I defined my mission and purpose, and with the spirit that enveloped my soul, good came from the storm.

Fast forward to June 2018, when a ‘calling’ happened.  Using another guiding principle in my consulting approach, I set up a room - space for a war wall and a showcase wall.  The storyboards started to appear, one wall and then one piece at a time.  First, an organizational framework was designed and it was called Mission X.  Then, a PROgram was built and it was called Life byDesignâ„ .  I was being guided and led to keep a team engaged, and together, we would work on developing and maturing our leadership capability with community-focus at the core.  Lastly, to my surprise, I was called to write a book.

“What’s up with this 'calling'?” I repeatedly asked myself for 6 months.  Yes, there were so many more questions surfacing, as this was coming at me very differently from 35 years of other PROfessional work experiences when an idea or need was brought to my attention and I would prepare a proposal and a roadmap to build the solution.  I had developed many organizations, built and implemented many PROgrams, and matured leadership capability through my war room and showcase design approach in the past (a place where the right people belong at the right time to focus on a need and build the solution).  The need (war) seemed bigger this time, which meant the celebration (showcase) would be greater.  The solution would influence good for so many more people than I could have ever impacted in my consulting practice.  The Mission and Vision, clear and vivid, became REAL for me.

“How do I know this is right and is meant for me?” I started asking God.  I didn't know much about how to pray, so for me it was many conversations, many questions.  The first answer was amazingly precise: I was to guide people in the transition from earthly REALities toward the promise of the heavenly REALm in everyday living in all we do, first as a designer, then as a messenger, and lastly as an implementer.  I drew a picture of this on my war wall, and it is the vision I see everyday.  It aligned with my experience, skills, passion, and maturity to build organizations, design PROgrams, and develop understanding and maturity in leaders - bringing the REALity of the current state landscape to the desired state vision.  But, the idea of writing a book or being a messenger for all people was not in my portfolio of experience or series of goals.  I've had a lot of life experiences (earthly REALities, both personally and PROfessionally), but I didn’t know much about the heavenly REALm and its connection to Vision.

Naturally, a spiritual leadership role was added to my portfolio of responsibilities, and the ‘calling’ became more straightforward, in my personal and PROfessional life.  I was on a Mission: a meaningful purpose I could commit to despite the fears, challenges, and unprecedented uniqueness of the ‘calling’.  Another guiding principle of my consulting practice surfaced and the discovery PROcess began - study, learn, apply.  The PROmise of living a good, long life was REAL; I came to understand this.  The good news is that I also came to understand that my purpose was to advance the Kingdom by giving back and forward to everyone in this nation, all of us – The People.   To support the mission and the vision, I carried the motto 'Making Good Contagious' with me every day.  This guided my understanding of what it meant to be a messenger.  This enabled another guiding principle, Changing the Conversation, and I exercised this way of communication every day in all relationships.  By now, the 'calling' is becoming more defined - to build a platform for everyone to have the opportunity to personally and professionally:

A) discover their purpose and God-given gifts,

B) define their mission and vision,

C) change the conversation,

D) create an executable plan,

E) experience with others', life fulfillment, balance, and growth.

With my newly revived faith - and still unsure and uncertain, skeptical and questioning everything - I learned that you do not hesitate when God calls. Through my disciplined discovery PROcess in order to understand what this 'calling' meant, I embraced what is now recognized as Life Study and started designing.  I even created a new quiet space for this study (adding to my war and showcase space); and yes, this is where prayer became conversations and the still small voice became REAL.  Those of you who know me, know I can't make this stuff up: my disciplined and intentional approach to everything (study, analyze, plan, execute), while a blessing and a curse my whole life, was showing up as a developed gift and I was able to influence good for others one moment at a time.  Now, I understand what it means to give - time, talent, and treasures - for the benefit of others.

The original storm continued as my perfect storm - a trifecta on my life: a heartfelt challenging relationship through my divorce, an unexpected financial landscape, and an uncomfortable and unhealthy home life.  PROfessionally, I know these three potential areas of impact are common when challenging and tough business decisions need to be made (people, finance, culture).  The good news is that I personally weathered the storm with more love for others, contentment with life in general, and a soothing peace in my soul.  Now, I understand why, on my birthday, the experience became a gift - igniting new life and introducing new opportunities. And, in the spirit of 'Making Good Contagious,' I committed and vowed never to lose faith in the PROmised good, long life for everyone.

The REALity, the truth, we are all People, equal in creation, sharing common experiences (trials and celebrations) daily.  I wasn't alone, friends and family showed up; but very few were comfortable talking about the truth of REAL situations.  If we could just align the heart, the mind, and the body towards good feelings, mindfulness, and prioritized actions, we would get closer to the truth of each of our REALities every day.  I became bold, courageous, and confident in encouraging others to join me in Changing the Conversation and focus on being Good Enough today, and look to tomorrow for the opportunity to be better (Good Enough again).  And this, my friends, is REAL in Making Good Contagious for all of us.  I learned that it is actually quite easy with faith, focused and disciplined time and behavior.   Try it, ONE moment of opportunity at a time.  We are not all Good at everything; someone around us is Good at what we need and don't know or have.  No doubt, together we are better.

Mission X is the means by which I would carry out God's 'calling' and my life's purpose.  It was established in January 2019.  Over the next year, a free-lance writer drafted a book manuscript and many people participated in the first pilot PROgram, Life byDesignâ„ . There was no development of a promotional campaign for launch because I was still not ready – apparently God’s timing is not my timing – I needed a firmer foundation.  First, I needed income - as the sole provider of my life’s needs and the initial founding partner of Mission X, donating all my time, talent, and treasures to its existence – I had to grab a consulting contract that surfaced through a friend and previous business partner.  The work did not distract me from Mission X; and as more consulting contracts emerged, so did many opportunities.  I exhibited another guiding principle of my PROfessional practice, and as I worked my spiritual leadership into building solutions,  by building effective teams, one person/one PROject/one day at a time. I captured many new relationships and experiences and together, we defined pivotal moments of opportunity, and I built two more programs: Business byDesignâ„  and Performance byDesignâ„ .

Working and my passion for developing organizations, building and implementing PROgrams, and serving people kept me busy through 2023.  The good news is it was a PROductive and fruitful time; each solution seeding Mission X.  I was favored in the settlement of my 5-year divorce PROcess as a PRO*se representative, secured a comfortable and healthy home in Scottsdale, Arizona, finished the organizational framework of Mission X as a membership community, and founded and established the Life Study Foundation - a 501(3)c non-profit organization.  Lastly, and surprisingly, I realized I will be the author of The Book, and will express myself as a messenger, in a Good Enough way every day in order to continue building good relationships with family, friends, and clients – all good people in my life.

Today, please allow me to be humble; this was hard work while trials and tribulations abound in all areas of life – family, home, health, finance, and work.   With the results of the three byDesignâ„  programs, the focus and prioritization of my time and effort, the meaningful and intentionality of all relationships, and the mindfulness and desire to make good choices, I embrace this new season in my transformed life with a firm foundation, a meaningful purpose, and a clear vision.  I know I will be on this earth for as long as I can be productive and influence good for others, most importantly, the life of my 2 grandchildren, the youngest of five living generations in our nation today.  I've always known and continue to realize that the hard work will never end, and that Good Enough today will bring tomorrow's opportunity. Anything is possible, as communicated and learned by successful - game changing/destructors of the norm - leaders before and amongst us.  Come along, let's all lead and advocate for each other and do good things.  That is the REAL definition of Community, working together, bringing life into dying systems and PROgrams.  We are running out of time before we experience an implosion of our nation, our businesses, our churches, our educational and financial institutions, our careers, our families, and any unhealthy relationship.

Thank you, family and friends, for your grace and our relationship (old, revived, or new) as I continue to embrace my Life Study daily, reflecting on our experiences together, implementing the many good learnings, and recognizing and celebrating the accomplishments.

It takes a community to unite and not divide (no labels, just Mission).  The People (you, us, we) are ready for Mission X - the place where people belong, do good, and work together for the benefit of others, addressing our nation, our local community, our businesses, and our family's needs - whether challenges to overcome or opportunities to pursue - ONE solution - one organization, one program, one project, one relationship, one day, and ONE moment at a time.

This concludes the storytelling for now.  I invite you all to join me - to be the leader of your life and destiny and make your good contagious for the generations before us and those behind us.  Join as a leader or advocate member of Mission X.  It is not a job, a position, a subscription - it is a membership lifecycle with no exit strategy.  I am just an ignitor - then it is all you, us.  Look for The Book ‘by Rox’ when it is published, where you will find yourself in one or more of the stories and you'll understand why I know that, together, making good contagious, is not just a motto, it is a lifestyle.  â€‹
